April Lesson: Joseph Smith, Priesthood, and First Vision

This is what I'm using as an outline this Sunday.
Since their was a General Conference and combined Fast Sunday lesson,
I tried to overlap information from the Priesthood Restoration, First Vision, and Joseph Smith's involvement in the Restoration all in one lesson.  We will see how it goes. :)

So, I think it can be used for any of these 3 lessons:

I called and am having a YW come prepared with details to each of these events.  This way we are not reading the verses in class and they can be involved in teaching the lesson.
You can find out age and date info on lds.org.
I just googled "Joseph Smith Timeline" and it came up as an option.

You can either cut and glue them in the INBs as is.  Or cut out each event you want to cover in the lesson. {maybe just the priesthood? Depends what you want to do}

OR just use it as a worksheet/handout in the lesson

Our Playroom

So, here is a little tour of my kids' playroom.
One of my favorite rooms in the house.  :)
There are some things I still need to do.
But overall, it's functioning right now.
This is what a Teacher does with her classroom stuff when she isn't teaching. :)
{What's sad is... I have more buckets in the garage!}

I scored this whiteboard at Goodwill for $4.99!
You can buy one at Home Depot and have it cut to size.
Just make sure you take an Expo marker with you to try out the board!

Our family library

I got these at IKEA.
I want to redo them with vinyl and pictures.  So, my non-readers will know what's in what box.

Our learning corner

Our themes for the week.
Alphabet
Days of the week
Weather Chart
5 Senses Chart

I just cut off the bottom of a shoe organizer.
I keep his reading folder, reading phone, handwriting practice, reading group items, etc... here
 {I had used the upper part in my classroom to store our class set of calculators in.}

Reading Wall

Math Wall

Behavior Management Chart
Each kid has their own "shop" they earn money by doing chores & being caught being good etc...
Can buy things out of their shop.
If they are misbehaving, then they get strikes on the windows.  3 strikes, they lose money.
I drew and painted these.
Working on designing this so I can cut it out of vinyl and put it in my Etsy shop.

Toy bins and book in the bags.

Cupcake Wars Activity!

Cupcake Wars!

Have you ever heard of this activity!?

The girls split up into teams.  Pick ingredients.  And make cupcakes!
Some of the ingredients are Trix Cereal, Lime Soda, Oreos, Peppermints, etc...
Find the idea here on Some Sweet Talking Girl

Sooo fun!  We did it for a mutual activity.  Had the YM judge.  And ate all the cupcakes after!
Win Win!

{I think this would be a great age group activity! Beehives vs. Deacons! etc...}

Hot Dogs For Toddlers!

How do your toddlers eat their Hot Dogs?

My mom used to do this for us when we were kids.  And now I'm doing it for them. :)
Yeah, you might have seen this before.  Or think this is a rather lame post.  But, I figured I would share since whenever I do it, I always have people say "That's cool. Never thought of that."

So, here is my awesome Hot Dog post. :)

Hey, my daughter loves eating them this way.
Always puts a smile on her face.
haha. lame joke I know. :)

Taste the Rainbow!

Skittles!
Learn your colors sorting and graphing skittles!

I found this site via Pinterest and printed the Skittle Sort & Rainbow Graph!

We used our skittles the Leprechaun brought us on St. Patty's Day for the activity.
{Yes, this was a looong time ago. I just now found these pics on my camera and thought I would share. :)}

April Lesson: Why do we need the Book of Mormon? Handout

Teaching in April?
Need a handout or glue in for your INB?
These two pages go with the April question: Why do we need the Book of Mormon?

You can download the pages:

HERE {on 4shared}

OR

HERE {on Scribd}

OR

HERE {Dropbox}

Page 1

You can use this page for this suggestion in the "Learn Together" part of the lesson:
Invite the young women to search the scriptures suggested in this outline and the title page of the Book of Mormon to find answers to the question “Why do we need the Book of Mormon?” Share your testimony of the Book of Mormon. Invite the young women to share how they gained their testimonies.

Page 2

You can use this page for the short video they include in the lesson
{I think it's less than a minute long!}
and this suggestion in the "Learn Together" part of the lesson:
"Invite the young women to share a scripture in the Book of Mormon that has influenced them or helped them overcome a challenge (or share a scripture that is meaningful to you). Why is it meaningful to them? What experiences can they share about how the scripture influenced them? What do these experiences teach us about the importance of the Book of Mormon?"

Hope you find these useful! :)

New YW General Presidency Announced

These ladies will be missed!  I've been serving in YW since 2010 and have loved learning through their example!  Such amazing women!  I was able to attend a training back in 2011 with Sister Dibb {President Monson's daughter}.  She is awesome.  Just to name a few things that happened within the church while they served:

1) Virtue was added to the YW values
2) A new curriculum was announced and started

that is just a few things. :)

Excited to learn from these new women called today:
