Learning My Colors! Interactive Color Poster

Teaching colors can be challenging, but it also can be FUN!

When my son, "Johnny Apple", was about 2 years old we would focus on recognizing and saying our colors. 

To help increase his exposures to colors and record his progress, I made an interactive poster for in his room.  I just got a regular poster board from the dollar store and drew and colored in the crayons.  Make sure you write the color's name by the crayon to help him recognize it's name as well.  Then, everyday we would do our colors.  I would point to a color and ask him it's name, he would respond "Green" or "Blue"etc.. But, I would also change it up by asking "Where is Purple?" then he would have to point to the color.  Each time he did either correctly I gave him a sticker to put on the crayon or by it.  He LOVED doing this.  I loved it too because I would know, just by looking at the chart, which ones he needed more focus on.

YW Back to School Survival Kits

Young Women Back to School Survival Kits!!

What a FUN way to kick off the new school year!!  Since our first day of school is on a Wednesday, we are having a YW combined activity.... Back to School Party!  The girls look forward to this every year!  They talk about their schedules, teachers, BOYS, etc... all while having a good time and yummy food!  We had done survival kits in the past, but when I found this idea here I thought it was WAY cuter than mine and we just had to do it this way!  The original idea can can also be found here.

BUDGET?  Well, it came to about $2 a YW and we have 30 girls.  That is for the bags, items, and tape (to attach the items).  If you are wanting to make it a little cheaper, don't do as much candy!!  The most expensive candies were Snickers, 100 Grand, Kisses, and M&Ms.

Feel free to not do or add whatever you want!

These are hard to find!!  The bottles of hand sanitizer are $1 each.  Waaaay too expensive for our budget.  So, I was trying to find these individually wrapped wipes.  Where did I find them?  At Walgreens!!  They were next to the paper plates! About $2.57 for 48 of them!  Who knew!?

Figured we could donate our extras to the boys to use when blessing the sacrament.

Secret Service Handouts for YW

I serve in the YW Presidency in my ward and it was my turn to teach the Fast Sunday combined lesson.  I had Lesson 30: Service from Manual 1.

I was trying to come up with a handout that didn't involve food, since after all it was Fast Sunday.  So, I found this idea here but tweaked it a little.  It's called "7-Day Challenge of Service".  I typed up the challenge for each day and put them in separate envelopes for each day.  I explained that the YW would be Secret Service Agents this next week and have one "mission" per day (if they choose to accept it).  They seemed really excited to take on this challenge!  

I used the fonts "Faith Dots" for the labels for the envelopes and "Cry Kitty", "Emma" & "Masked Marvel" for the challenges.  Click on the font name and I linked where you can download the font for FREE! :)

Do-A-Dot Pages!

One of my son's favorite preschool activities is doing "Do-A-Dot" pages!  When I looked up how much the "Do-A-Dot" markers were I thought they were a little pricey.  So, I thought why not use the Bingo Markers found at Dollar Tree!?  They work like a charm and my son loves them!

 You can make your own Alphabet Kits to use in the classroom or at home for cheap!

You can order them with magnets or not.  You also can get the vowels in different colors.  You can get an alphabet set for as low at $1.15!! Love them.

I think there is a minimum order requirement.  So.... have a group of your friends go in on one order!

I just bought a tackle box from Wal-Mart to keep my letters in.  This is my kit that I would use in Reading groups or just use with my three year old at home.

TYPE 2:

I just bought some pencil boxes when they were cheap right before back to school.  You can find these small mirrors at Dollar Tree.  I put an alphabet set in the box with a mirror.  Preschoolers and Kinder age kiddos have fun looking at themselves in the mirror as they make their letter sounds.  The kids think this is hilarious!

What a great way to making learning fun!!  You can turn a "Twister" game into an educational game!  

All you need is:

 A "Twister" Game

Permanent Marker
